Building a website with online booking for children’s courses and adult classes: Egan Performing Arts

Most booking systems are built on an assumption that does not hold for children’s classes: that the person booking is the person attending. For Egan Performing Arts, a fitness and community classes provider in West Ealing, that gap was causing real problems.

The challenge
Egan Performing Arts had outgrown their original one-page website. They needed a full site with separate areas for adult and children’s classes, an online booking system, a members area, and a way to handle the complexity that most off-the-shelf platforms get wrong: parents booking on behalf of children.
Standard booking tools either ignore the attendee/booker split entirely, or break down when there is more than one child to register. For a children’s performing arts and fitness provider, that is not an edge case - it is the majority of their bookings.
What I did
I built a full Wix site with distinct, clearly signposted areas for adult classes and children’s classes, each designed around the different priorities of those audiences.
For the booking system, I wrote custom code to solve the attendee/booker problem directly: parents can book on behalf of one or more children, with the attendee information captured separately from the account holder’s details. This is the kind of functionality that most booking platforms either cannot handle or charge a significant premium for.
The site also includes a members area, giving users the ability to update and manage their bookings and different attendees, pickups and other important information.
The result
We had a great experience with Diopatra design! Michaela completely understood our brand and our aims and worked with care and attention to detail from initial brief to end design. She went above and beyond and we are delighted with the end product.
